Over 40 years ago the man stood on the Moon. Today NASA, in cooperation with Elon Musk’s SPACE-X, promises that people will set foot on Mars before 2030. Although the goal is ambitious, it causes many technical problems. One of them is the system used to protect health and life of astronauts taking part in the mission.

Protecting the health of the crew is a priority. It is essential to create medical facilities on Earth as well as in the base on Mars before the first launch of colonizers. The first step should be an establishment of requirements and guidelines for the entire system.

A group of Polish doctors, after a consultation with an astronaut, – Miroslaw Hermaszewski, have made a scientific coverage to help in planning the space travel. It was published in MEDtube Science, a scientific journal, in 2013. The project was financed from Foundation of Research and Science Development’s own resources.

The coverage can be useful in further, more challenging space exploration. We hope that the Polish scientists will join the race on Mars.
