General surgeon, transplantologist. For many years, he has been busying himself with endoscopic treatment of digestive tract. He is a specialist in transplanting pancreas and islets of Langerhans in the treatment of diabetes, chronic pancreatitis and reins – taken from organ donors as well as from donors within the family. He took part in the first transplantation of islets of Langerhans in 2008, the first pancreas transplant in 2010 and in the first family interchange of reins in 2015. The combination of his two passions – transplantology and endoscopy – resulted in a new minimal invasive method of intricate diabetes treatment called endoscopic islets of Langerhans transplantation of under gastric mucosa. In 2013 he performed this procedure for the first time in the world. Nowadays it is used in several medical centers in the United States. This procedure is proposed to patients with advanced diabetes and pancreatitis. He currently works on a 3D bioprinting of pancreas together with the Foundation of Research and Science Development, Warsaw Medical University, Warsaw University of Technology, Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology Polish Academy of Science and MediSpace Ltd. He is also the originator and co-author of medtube.net – one of the biggest multimedia database visited by professionals from over 80 countries. In 2009 he was honored with the Bronze Cross of Merit by the then President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, with the Gold Cross of Merit by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda and awarded by the Prime Minister Donald Tusk in 2010. He is a member of the Association of Polish Surgeons, the Polish Transplantation Society, a member and co-author of the Polish Association of Tissue and Cell Banking, a member of international scientific societies: The Transplantation Society, International Pancreas & Islet Transplant Association, International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement. Editor-in-Chief of journal MEDtube Science in the years 2013-2016.
